LG FF: A freeze failure: the washer is too cold to run.
LG's front load washer error code list says FF (also shown as u51) is a freeze failure: the temperature dropped below about 1 degree C (34 F), and the controls stay locked until the unit warms above about 4 degrees C (39 F).

The checks, with LG's detail
- 1Warm the drum
Remove the laundry and pour warm water at 50 to 60 degrees C (122 to 140 F) into the drum, close the door and wait 1 to 2 hours. LG warns against using boiling water.
- 2Drain the residual water
Open the lower access cover, remove the drain tube cap, let the water out and reseal the cap.
- 3Run a Rinse x1 cycle
LG lists this after the drum has thawed and drained.
- 4If IE appears and the drum does not fill, thaw the inlet
LG says to thaw the inlet hoses and taps the way it describes for the IE code, using water below 50 degrees C (122 F), then run a Rinse and Spin. To prevent it recurring, drain the residual water and keep the drain hose free of bends.

Where to stop
LG's list says to request service if the error occurs in mild weather, when freezing cannot explain it.
Not covered here, on purpose: Anything inside the cabinet. LG's list covers thawing and draining only, and this site goes no further. Read when to stop and call a technician.
Same code, different meaning on other brands
None of the other brands in the verified set (Bosch, Samsung, Whirlpool) uses FF or u51 on the official pages read for this site. If your display shows FF on a different brand, do not apply these checks; use the lookup or that brand's own support page.
