Methodology, sources and review status
This site has one kind of source: the manufacturer's own US support page for a code. Each record below says which page, when it was read, and what was taken from it.
1. What a record contains
Each official page was fetched on the retrieval date. 'meaning' is a paraphrase of what the page says the code indicates. 'userSafeChecks' restates, in order, only the checks the page itself lists for the owner. Quoted fragments are under 125 characters. Where the page says nothing, the field is null. 'stopHere' is the page's own instruction for what to do when the checks fail; where the page gives none, the field says so and 'stopHereSource' is 'editorial'.
This site never adds repair steps a manufacturer did not list for owners. No gas, live-electrical or refrigerant work appears anywhere. The decision tree on each page ends where the manufacturer's own page ends: a request for service.
The raw records are published at /data/codes.json with these notes embedded.

3. What could not be sourced
- GE Appliances dishwasher H2O: No official GE Appliances support page for a dishwasher H2O code could be located via searches restricted to geappliances.com and products.geappliances.com on 2026-10-16, repeated 2026-10-17; every result was a third-party repair site. The brief for this site forbids building a page from anything but the manufacturer's own page, so no H2O page exists here. Re-check before adding.
4. The expert-review requirement
Status: Not yet reviewed by an appliance technician. Model-specific pages are not built until that review happens (see /methodology/).
The research that proposed this site set a condition: diagnostic content needs review by someone qualified to repair these appliances, and the site dies if that review is absent. The current pages restate manufacturer text and add no diagnosis of their own, which is the only reason they exist before review. Review will check that each restatement is faithful, that the decision-tree order matches the page, and that no owner check has been made to sound simpler than it is.
5. Why model-specific pages are deliberately not built
The keyword list behind this site includes model-plus-code searches such as a specific LG washer model with OE, a Samsung model with 4C, a Bosch model with E24, and a Whirlpool model's full code list. None of those pages exists here, on purpose:
- The manufacturer pages read so far are written per appliance type (front-load, top-load, dishwasher), not per model. A model page would be the same text with a model number on top, which is a thin page.
- Whether a code behaves differently on one model is exactly the kind of claim that needs a technician to confirm. Until that review exists, the site does not assert it.
- Model pages are the first thing a bulk-rewriting competitor produces. The value here is the boundary and the provenance, not the count.
When a reviewed model-level difference is documented, it will get a new slug. Existing URLs are never renamed or redirected.
6. Editorial assumptions, all of them
- "Owner check" means a step the manufacturer's page lists for the owner. Nothing else qualifies.
- Decision diamonds in the tree are the yes/no observations the page itself asks for (hear a hum, did the code return). Where a page gives a plain list with "if the problem continues, request service", the tree ends with a single "still showing?" diamond into the service box. That diamond is a rendering of the page's closing sentence, not a new step.
- For Samsung SUD the page lists no service step and says none is needed. The site's boundary there is marked "editorial" on the page and in the data.
- For LG UE the top-load page is primary because it is the one that includes the deciding test; the front-load page is quoted separately on the same page.
- Quotes from manufacturer pages are kept under 125 characters. Everything else is paraphrase.
- No step on this site was tested by the author. First person on this site is reasoning, never measurement.
7. Design conventions
Colour on this site encodes who may act. Blue is an owner check from the manufacturer's page. Red with hatching is the request-service boundary, technician only beyond it. Grey is "the code should clear". The convention is identical on the trees, the step lists and the callouts.
