Samsung SUD: Too many suds were detected; the washer pauses and then continues on its own.
Samsung's code list says SUd (also 5UD, Sd or 5d) is an excessive-suds error. The washer pauses briefly so the suds can settle, then continues the cycle automatically, and may flash the code again at the end as a reminder. Samsung says this code does not mean service is needed and is caused by incorrect detergent use.

The checks, with Samsung's detail
- 1Let the washer pause and resume
Samsung says the cycle continues automatically once the suds dissipate. Nothing needs to be pressed.
- Did the cycle finish (the code may flash again at the end)?
- 2Review detergent type and amount
Samsung's page attributes the code to incorrect detergent use and points to its detergent usage guide rather than listing steps. Use the amount and type the washer's manual specifies.
Where to stop
Samsung's page lists no service step for SUD and says the code does not mean service is needed. Editorial boundary: if the cycle never resumes, or a different code follows, treat that as the code to look up or contact Samsung support.
Not covered here, on purpose: Nothing on Samsung's page. This site does not add anything beyond it. Read when to stop and call a technician.
Same code, different meaning on other brands
None of the other brands in the verified set (Bosch, LG, Whirlpool) uses SUD or SUd/5UD/Sd/5d on their official pages read on 2026-10-16. If your display shows SUD on a different brand, do not apply these checks; use the lookup or that brand's own support page.
