Codes / Whirlpool / Washer (front load)
Whirlpool F8 E1: The washer is not detecting the correct amount of incoming water.
Whirlpool's page says F8 E1 (shown as Lo FL on some models) means the washer is not detecting the correct amount of incoming water. It adds that in this state the door may be locked and the control unresponsive, and that pressing the power button starts a drain routine of about 8 to 10 minutes, during which the control will not accept input.

The checks, with Whirlpool's detail
- 1Check the water is turned on
Whirlpool says to make sure the hot and cold water valves are fully open, and that both the hot and cold inlet hoses are connected.
- 2Check the water inlet hoses
Whirlpool lists: no kinks; the hot (red) hose on the hot (red) valve and the cold (blue) hose on the cold (blue) valve; clogged inlet screens cleaned or replaced, turning off the water supply and removing the hoses to check them; and the washer connected directly to the water supply, because Whirlpool says anti-flood devices can reduce water pressure and flow.
- 3Check whether a hose is clogged
With the hoses disconnected, run water through them at a sink. Whirlpool says to replace a hose where the flow is restricted or incomplete.
- 4Check the drain hose installation
Whirlpool says the drain hose should extend more than 4.5 inches (113 mm) into the drainpipe, should not be taped so as to seal it into the pipe (it should be loose but secure, with a gap for airflow), and the top of the drainpipe should be at least 39 inches (99 cm) above the floor, because a lower drain can let water flow back out of the machine.
- Does F8 E1 still appear?
The same fault, published twice by Whirlpool
Whirlpool publishes the same fault a second time as a No Water Detected message, listing F8 E1 and Lo FL together with the same checks. That page is why Lo FL and the No Water Detected message are treated here as the same record rather than separate pages. Where to stop
Whirlpool's page says to contact it or schedule service (service.whirlpool.com, whirlpool.com/contact-us), and lists the customer service line 1-866-698-2538.
Not covered here, on purpose: The water inlet valve, the pressure sensor and their wiring. Whirlpool's owner page stops at the hoses, the valves and the standpipe. Read when to stop and call a technician.
